Global Vision International (GVI) spent over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve and maintained a strong relationship with the Yachana Foundation while working in the Amazon.

During this time, in concert with Yachana students, GVI elaborated on a species list for the reserve that includes over 750 different species [298 bird species, 248 butterflies, 78 frog and toad species, 62 mammals and various snakes, salamanders and other fascinating creatures].

Of special note was finding a rare species of glass frog, originally thought only to exist in Venezuela and later seen only in one other part of Ecuador.

Between 2006 and 2012 two field guides and one detailed species list were produced.

Get to know some of the facts and features of the species surrounding Yachana before your visit.
